GTF lashes out at GJM, GJM to back Congress says GTF

Kalimpong Feb 21: The Gorkhaland Task Force (GTF) – a conglomerate of opposition parties in the hills – has alleged that the Congress is using the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) to debacle the Mamata lead government in the state.

“Our sources have informed that the GJM and the Congress has been in talks since a couple of days and it is likely that the GJM will back a congress candidate in the upcoming 2014 elections,” said R.Moktan, the co-ordinator of the GTF.

The conglomerates allegation coincides with the recent meeting between the two parties. Congress MLA from Naxalbari Shankar Malakar few days back met Bimal Gurung the GJM chief in Patlaybash in Darjeeling when things in the hills are boiling up for a fresh agitation for separate state fuelled by the possibility of the formation of Telangana.

The GTF’s allegation also coincides and important for consideration given the point that Morcha made the letter received from UPA chairperson and Congress leader Soniya Ghandhi that said she has received the letter on Gorkhaland demand sent by Morcha and has kept the demand in her mind.

The GTF reiterated that they are being denied the permission for public meetings in the hills and hence the GJM’s allegation that the opposition shouts from home is baseless. The GTF came into existence under the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh and has spread its wings in 22 states. “The opposition or for that matter the GTF is not sitting idle but has been working towards the demand for a separate state. “Since February last year we have been meeting chief ministers and MP’s of different states seeking support for the demand. The GJ infact is misleading the people of the hills with false efforts for agitation,” said Moktan.

It may be mentioned here that the GJM on February 17 also announced to meet the chief ministers of different states to seek support for the demand of separate state.
