Kurseong Feb 27: An employee of Allahabad bank here was gheraoed from early morning by Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) supporters on Wednesday demanding immediate transfer or suspension from job for allegedly taking active part in politics.
The employee Mohan Tamang according to Morcha supporters has been active in politics as a member of the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) which is against the norms and regulation of the Service rules act for government employees. The service rules have exempted only the teachers from the purview.
“Tamang has been actively participating in politics since a long time inspite of being a government employee. Our party too has government employees union but it does not directly take part in active politics. If he wants to take part actively then he must leave the job,” said Yogendra Rai, a GTA member who led the gherao.
The gherao was lifted after the Bank Manager assured that the matter would be sorted out as soon as possible. Tamang however was unavailable for comment and the Manager said that he was not authorized to speak to the media.  With the Morcha supporters hovering around in the town since early morning, the administration has deployed a large number of police personnel patrolling the town.
Sources added that the Morcha supporters also gheraoed a house of an opposition leader at Simulbarie. Police however said that there was not such report filed in the police stations so far.
