Gurung does not have a record of social worker: quips Harka

Darjeeling Feb 21: Praveen Gurung a social activist and the secretary of the Peoples Forum is all set to file a PIL opposing the four day strike called by the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) despite the top leaders of the party criticizing with a tag on Gurung labeled as ‘Anti-gorkhaland’.

Gurung today said he will probably attend the high court on February 26 or 27 to file the PIL the process for which has already started. “The strike would only harass the hill people and tourism will get hit hard. The GJM has already signed the GTA agreement and the strike has been called only to reconstruct the ailing relation between the party and chief minister,” said Gurung in a clear statement.

“I would be moving to the court by February 27 to file the PIL. The case will be filed against top leaders especially Bimal Gurung,” he confirmed.

It will be the first time in the history of Gorkhaland agitation if the case is filed that a person or any other outfit is going so openly against the tirade of political kingship of the hills.
Further citing more reason for filing the PIL, the peoples forum secretary said that the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) is not happy with the state only for the reason that the departments to the GTA has not transferred as yet. “The Gorkhaland stunt again by the party who has already signed the GTA agreement is just a way for bargaining with the state government,” he added.
Reacting to the move made by Gurung, the GJM opined that in politics the if the party has public they go to the public, if the party does not have public they go to the court. “The forum I believe has just one member and that is Gurung. But it is an individual interest to file PIL and he is free to do so. The person who is filing the PIL does not even have record as a social worker. In such case why should anybody pay attention to him?” said Harka Bahadur Chettri, the spokesperson for the GJM and Kalimpong MLA.
