Almost in every leading newspaper people have congratulated the Government for its 21 years of Glorious success. We do not deny the fact that Government had a successful journey till date, bud did the people of Sikkim enjoy that glory is again an unspoken truth.

However, to say that “Incredible infra-structural developments in all sectors tourism, health, education, agriculture, power, industrial, connectivity, housing etc.”  is a big illusion that we, the people of Sikkim, should have a kind self introspection. Dealing with every sector that the Well wisher of SDF party has mentioned, we don’t have to go very far to give the proofs of our Glorious Sikkim. Following are the topics on which we are throwing light about the Government’s Glory:

Tourism-In the name of encouraging tourism there is a huge scam behind it. The Government is beautifying each city as per their knowledge but what about North Sikkim? Even the capital of North district looks like an underdeveloped village. Development should not be in patches, it should be an overall  and farsighted vision. These are the few Scams related to it:
  1. Ranka Tourist Villa Scam , Sikkim
  2. Kanchandzonga Tourist Villa Scam, Sikkim and the like.(Courtesy www.bjp.org)

Health – It is sad to know that there are sub-standard health facilities in our state. Citing an example, anyone can visit the toilets of our STNM Hospital. Located in the heart of the capital, health and hygiene should be the prime concern. There are no adequate bed facilities for the patients. Well equipped instruments and Super-speciality hospitals is still a distant dream. For every small cause people have to visit Siliguri, which is very time consuming and costly too.

Education - I feel shame to say that staying in such a small and beautiful state, government is not able to give the best standard of education to its citizens. Even the books and uniforms do not reach on time. Regarding which even High Court has taken suo motu action, but government is hardly concerned to come in front and redress its people’s grievances. Many of the schools in the remote areas of Sikkim till now also do not have adequate teachers.

Agriculture – We still depend upon our neighboring states for our food grains.Have the Government ever thought of becoming a self sufficient state? The day is not far when even the farmers of Sikkim will start committing suicides due to the negligence on this sector. It is a total failure on the part of the Government as none of the area has been developed during his regime. In the name of agricultural advancement we are compelled to grow vegetables and sale it in our own market. Why don’t Government start some modern schemes where we would be able to export our so called organic vegetables to other state too? This shows the lack of vision within our head of the state.

Power - This is an interesting area to be discussed about. Having so many hydel projects in our state we frequently have power cuts on almost daily basis. Many of the villages are still in darkness having no connection of electricity. Every year there is a heavy landslide due to this multiple hydel projects mushrooming on the bank of river Teesta. One of the biggest scam of North east includes the scam of these hydel projects.

Industry – The Government has allowed excessive numbers of pharmaceutical companies in our State. What about the environmental degradation due to the release of such toxic pollutants? Even in the residential areas they have let the companies’ plant themselves. Citing an example the Sun-pharmaceuticals Company located near Jalipool is adjacent to the Power Colony. The day would come very soon when our new babies would born as handicapped-physically and mentally due to the adverse affect of such gases in an around the colony.

Housing – Even the earthquake damaged houses are not yet completed. In this kind of climate that we face in our state, people should have safe and cosy houses to save ourselves from the chilling winters and incessant rains followed by hailstorms and landslides. Even under the Chief Minster Rural Housing Scheme, houses are still under-constructed. If the government provides the amount to construct the houses in advance under this scheme then only it would be possible for the citizen to construct it. Thus, People are suffering due to mal-administration and inefficient governance.

Having said so, if the well-wisher wants to talk about Peace and Tranquility in the state, the brutal act of IGP, Mr. Akshay Sachdeva on 11th February 2013 shows the law and order situation in the state. Alleging that someone "threw a water bottle" at the CM's vehicle, and clearly on his orders, the police surrounded the party office and mouthed foul language at men and women alike. Subsequently, the IGP Akshay Sachdeva ,acting like a SDF youth activist, instructed his IRB men to storm the office and beat up everyone inside. In the next few horrific minutes, unarmed men and women were beaten mercilessly and many were bleeding profusely while being admitted to the hospital. It is also a violation of the dignity of our women who were overpowered and manhandled by an all-male force. The open instructions by the IGP to storm a civilian compound show a criminal act by a public servant and clearly violate all the rules that ought to guide police action.

So, can we call it Glorious 21 years of democracy or a declining phase of our ruling  Government?
