Five Arrested for TMC leader attack, main accused yet to be traced

Kalimpong March 7: Five persons were arrested since last night in connection with the attack on Trinamool leader Chewang Bhutia and Bruno Lepcha but ironically the arrested were not among the prime accused in the FIR filed by Trinamool Congress with the Kalimpong police station.

The five arrested persons were Manoj Singh, Bijay Chettri, Anil Chettri, Dilip Paswan and Bikash Rumtel and all however belonged to the Morcha. The arrested were produced at a Kalimpong court in the afternoon. Two of the arrested Bijay Chettri and Dilip Paswan were sent to police custody for two days while the other has been sent to judicial custody.

Police said that the search was on for the main accused all of whom has been absconding. Sources from the police said that top cops from the state have ordered immediate arrest of the culprits behind the attack and start the case against them. The arrested ones have been booked under sections 147, 148, 149, 325, 326, 307, 447 of the Indian penal code.

Soures said that the Darjeeling superintendent of police Kunal Agarwal held a meeting with the additional superintendent of Kalimpong Saumit Lepcha in which it has been instructed to start a massive search operation to find the culprits. Agarwal also met the leaders of the anti-Morcha parties in hills later in the afternoon.
