Police raid for drug free Darjeeling, arrests four peddlers

Darjeeling March 24: The Darjeeling police in a bid to make the hills a drug free society in a special raid has arrested four drug peddlers from the town. All the four were arrested from Darjeeling town and has been booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NADP) Act. The four arrested are Rajen Gurung, Rakesh Thapa, Vikram Mukhia and Jyoti Pradhan.

 “Gurung and Thapa were caught red handed with the stuffs after our reliable source informed us. The stuffs were brought from Siliguri. The other two were arrested from the main town,” said the Inspector in charge of Darjeeling police station T.T.Bhutia.

In the recce Bhutia told journalists that some teenagers were also caught but were released after informing their parents. “The release has been made after the parents agreed to rehabilitate them and produce them in the police station from time to time,” added Bhutia.

The Police however conducts raid and arrests a number of culprits in Darjeeling every year but despite that the harmful use of drugs has been plaguing the hills since a long time. “Our society fears to report the police about such peddlers. We will soon be starting a mass drive to summon people from villages which has been black listed for such menace,” said Bhutia.
