Come April and history of sorts will be created when the first batch of 460
youths from this Himalayan state will be flagged off to join the Indian Army.
The Indian Army has selected 460 youths from this state for joining the Indian
Army for the first time through a written exam.
The 460 youths makes
up sixty six percent of the total youths who had appeared for the selection
process and has also cleared the physical and medical test conducted by the
Army. The recruitment rally was held on March 6 in which a total of 690 youths
had participated according to Army sources.
“The results were
declared yesterday by the Army recruiting office in Siliguri. Such high
percentage of pass results is a rare one in the Army recruitment process” said
D.N. Bhutia, the secretary of the Rajya Sainik Board.
The short listed
candidates have been selected for the post of Soldier for general duty and
tradesman. The youths are expected to be trained in Lucknow for 42 weeks at 3/11 gorkha Rifles
regiment centre. “A flagging off ceremony will be held on April 18 in a grand
style. The event will be a historic one,” said Bhutia.
On the same day the
second phase of the recruitment process will be held at two different venues
one being at Palzour Stadium, the second at Mangan Senior
Secondary School ground
and sports complex.
“The second phase
has been scheduled to target those who missed the first phase due to the
ongoing board examinations,” added Bhutia.
