Gangtok Feb 15: Condemning the February 11 lathi charge on
the supporters of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM), the Democratic Alliance
of Sikkim (DAS) staged a dharna infront of a district court at Sichey in east Sikkim
The DAS leadership also submitted a memorandum to the
additional District Collectorate, D.K. Pradhan which was forwarded to the
President of India, Prime Minister, Governor of Sikkim, Home minister, chief
secretary of the state, Chairman of NHRC and chairman of the Human Rights
commission. DAS- a conglomerate of opposition parties in the state – has
demanded for immediate suspension of inspector general of police Akshay
Sachdeva before the inquiry starts. “The IG is not supposed to enter any party
office without prior permission. It was illegal on the part of the IG to enter
the office of SKM and instigate lathi charge,” said Nakool Rai, the convenor of
DAS.
“The union home ministry should consider the issue
seriously before coming to Gangtok on February 17,” added the BJP state
president Padam Chettri.
DAS members said they will meet the union Home Minister
Sushil Kumar Shinde on February 17. Shinde is expected to visit Sikkim to inaugurate the second international
flower festival organized by the Sikkim

Sachdeva accused of molestation
Gangtok Feb 15: At a time when opposition parties in the
state wants immediate suspension of Akshay Sachdeva, the inspector general of
police for his alleged illegal step to lathicharge the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha
(SKM) supporters on February 11, a fresh controversy has surrounded the IG with
SKM general secretary Kala Rai accusing Sachdeva of molesting her told a DAS
delegation who were on a visit to STNM hospital.
Rai currently is undergoing a treatment at the hospital.
“Sachdeva purportedly touched my private parts during lathi charge attacking my
dignity,” Rai was quoted as saying by a DAS member. Rai is one of the party supporters
who were present during the February 11 lathi charge instigated after the
supporters allegedly attacked the chief minister’s calvacade.
SKM inaugurates
branch offices
The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) inaugurated its branch
offices at different constituencies in three districts. In east District, Chujachen Constituency’s office was set
up at Rongli bazaar, which was inaugurated by Birbal Subba, Vice President of
Party accompanied by the General Secretary Phuchung Bhutia.
Similarly, for South District and West District the office
has been set up at Jorethang, which was inaugurated by M.K Subba, General
Secretary accompanied by Bhojraj Rai. Jorethang witnessed presence of
large numbers of supporters who pledged their support for ‘Change’ in State. Lingdong,
in North District has been selected for the party’s branch office and was
inaugurated by Advisor, D.R Kharel.
In all three Districts the party executive members claimed
to bring in change in the state. Condemning the Lathi charge the members stated
that to bring in change in the state it has become necessary to get beaten up. The
party members further claimed that SKM follows ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi, so
they can’t get involve in violence.
