Police nab forest employees for smuggling timbers

Kurseong March 31: Four persons including three forest department employees were arrested in connection with smuggling of timber from Painakumari Khola near Garidhura under the Kurseong forest Division on Sunday. The police last week has seized vehicle loaded with timber from the Tindharia area.


“It is a utter surprise that the consignment seized today was being taken out by the forest employees as three of the four arrested are forest employees. 92 pieces of teak were seized from the area,” said Nima Narbu Bhutia, the SDPO of Kurseong. The four were arrested around 7:30 last evening. The three employees belongs to the Baman Pokhari Forest Range under the Kurseong Forest Division.

The arrested persons have been identified as Pradip Chettri, resident of Garidhura, Tapas Denghra, resident of Painakumari, Vijay Tamang, resident of Garidhura and Nawash Ekka, (driver), resident of Longview tea estate.
